My Ideal Husband And Partner In Crime
I was sitting on the veranda listening to the sounds around me, and I heard God ask me, what do you consider an ideal husband? I laughed because I wouldn't know how to answer if you had asked me this about a year ago. Today, I can honestly describe the type of partner I seek because I have become that partner. Many of us go through life normalizing unhealthy relationships because it was what we grew up around, and many of our role models had very toxic relationships. I never understood that until I got tired of constantly attracting unhealthy...
Are You Afraid Of Being Alone?
Lately, I've been thinking about how content I am with being in my presence. I wasn't always like this. Years ago, I would stay in relationships longer than needed because I was terrified of being alone. When I was single, I entertained dates out of boredom, but now I find it hard to give my time to things that aren't fulfilling. I spent much of my life putting up with other people's drama and ignoring my needs that I lost myself. Do you ever feel like you don't know yourself? Do you ever look around and ask yourself, how did I get here? Those...
Rainbow After The Storm
Today I decided to layout on my balcony after I meditated. I wanted to watch the clouds, and as I looked up, I noticed a rainbow. I can't tell you the last time I saw a rainbow, but at that moment I started smiling. It hit me that rainbows typically appear after it rains or storms. Suddenly it was placed in my heart that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Psalm 30:5 states that weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Many of us go through life challenges and forget that...
Stop Being Hard On Yourself
We can be so hard on ourselves. We push ourselves to the limit, and when things don't work out in our favor, we begin negative self-talk. We never express how appreciative we are of the things we have accomplished in our lives. We focus on the things we lack and treat ourselves unkindly. When was the last time you looked in the mirror and told yourself, "I love you?" When was the last time you told yourself, "I am proud of you?" You push yourself until you experience burnout and want to escape the life you have created. A...
Being Compassionate Vs. Self-Sacrifice
I would always confuse compassion with self-sacrifice. The Merrian-Webster definition of the word compassion is sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it. The definition of the word self-sacrifice is a sacrifice of oneself or one's interest for others for or a cause or ideal. In the past, I would constantly think of other people's feelings ahead of my own, thinking it was the compassionate thing to do. If someone wronged me and I knew they had a complicated past, I would be the bigger person and let them back into my life, acting as if nothing...
